In my previous article (Use Dataflows to import data from Excel file to Dataverse) I explained the steps to load data from an Excel sheet to Dataverse using the Dataflows. This approach provides the flexibility to transform the data before loading it into Dataverse, along with other rich features of the Power Query authoring experience.
In this article, let’s explore the process of editing Dataverse table data in Excel and publishing it back.
Prerequisites:
- Install the Power Apps Excel Add-in, from Microsoft PowerApps Office Add-in.

- After installing the add-in, you will see the ‘Microsoft PowerApps Office Add-in’ task pane, as illustrated below, when you open an Excel file.

Now that we have installed the required add-on, let’s explore how we can edit table data and publish it back to Dataverse. For this demonstration, I will be using my custom Company table.
Edit table data in Excel and publish it back to Dataverse:
- Connect to PowerApps maker portal.
- Choose the Company table either from a Solution or directly from the ‘Tables’ tab on the portal’s home screen.
- Click on Edit > Edit data in Excel

- An Excel file with the schema name of the Dataverse table is downloaded, as shown below.

- Open the downloaded file and click on ‘Sign in’ within the ‘Microsoft PowerApps Office Add-in’ task pane to proceed with signing in to the Dataverse environment.

- After signing in, you will see the existing records populated, along with options (i.e., New, Refresh, Publish, Filter) in the ‘Microsoft PowerApps Office Add-in’ task pane.

- Go ahead and edit existing data or add new rows in Excel, and then click on ‘Publish’ within the ‘Microsoft PowerApps Office Add-in’ task pane.

- Data will be synced in to Dataverse.
- Navigate to the Maker portal, and you will observe the synchronized data from Excel in the Company table.

- The maximum table size when editing in Excel is one million cells. If there are too many rows or columns, not all data will be read or published.
That’s it. I hope you have gained insights into how to bulk edit or add data from Excel and publish it back to Dataverse.
