Dataverse | Audit security role’s association and disassociation with User/Team
I received a question about how to audit when a Security Role is assigned or removed from a User or Team in Dataverse. In this article, I will demonstrate how to track the audit changes related to Security Roles.
Steps to track security role audit changes:
- Make sure Audit is enabled on the environment.
- Open the Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC) and go to Environment’s Settings page and enable the ‘Start Auditing’.
- To track the assignment and removal of ‘Security Role’ for Users or Teams, enable the Audit on the User and Team tables by clicking on ‘Entity and field audit settings’ as shown below.
- Select the ‘User’ and ‘Team’ tables and enable ‘Auditing’ checkbox as shown below.
- Note : You can also enable Audit of a table from Maker Portal.
- Go ahead and assign or remove Security Roles from a User or Team.
- To view the Audit, click on ‘Audit summary view’.
- In the Audit summary view, there will be ‘Associate Entities’ and ‘Disassociate Entities’ events.
- The ‘Associate Entities’ event indicates that a Security Role has been assigned, and the ‘Disassociate Entities’ event indicates that a Security Role has been removed.
- Click on the event name link to obtain the ‘Security Role’ name.

Hi Rajeev,
Thank you for explaining Audit in this post.
I have a question – We made a copy of our environment due to a critical server issue at MS. We haven’t copied audit logs. Is there a way to move audit logs across to the new environment.
I am not seeing this audit table in the old environment. Not sure if any settings need to be updated for this.
Thanks,
Lakshmi.
